Once you have achieved your Certificate IV in Bookkeeping (or higher!), most bookkeepers want to continue their professional development and register as a BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board.
You can embark on this journey towards being a registered agent as soon as you have your first client.
This allows you to offer your own clients the full suite of BAS Services, provided under supervision.
Currently, the TBP requires you to have 1400 hours of supervision, or 1000 hours if you are a member of a recognised association such as the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.
In working with you towards your BAS registration, I hope to give you a comfortable learning experience where you feel relaxed and supported, to guide you gently towards being an excellent and professional BAS agent. I will work with you to assist your learning in any areas you need to boost your knowledge, and provide feedback on your systems, processes and professionalism.
We will have a formal agreement signed by both parties, outlining the supervision arrangement. As soon as you have reached your 1000-1400 hours of required supervised BAS service related work, we can lodge your application to the TPB and get you on your way!
In order to embark on a supervision plan geared towards your BAS agent registration, you must already have your own clients or be employed as a bookkeeper. Please note, a supervision program is not a work experience program.
We will have monthly 1:1 mentoring sessions monthly to crunch the numbers with you so you know exactly where you are going right, or where you need to invest some more time into getting it right. It gives us a foundation to work off.
Between sessions, you are always welcome to get in touch, no matter what the enquiry. Business, bookkeeping, client trouble? No question is off limits, I'll even be available if you just need to let off steam!
Our fees are based on the work we carry out and record keeping of all hours you perform under our supervision.
We will provide regular reports of how many hours you have completed as well as sign off on the relevant documentation for you to obtain your own Registered BAS Agent registration with the TPB.
We are an Associate Member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and are governed by their Code of Conduct around BAS Supervision. We have many resources available at hand to assist your growth, including spreadsheets and templates to make sure you have the correct agreements with your clients.
You can get started building your client base right away. So not only will you gain the experience needed, you will be mentored every step of the way.
